I'm not gonna sell it,I just need a car to drive.
Answer:
There is nothing that will stop you from buying tha car in Mexico and bringing the car back across the boarder You will be required to pay all applicable taxes. I will share a short story with you. I was living in Germany and owned a German Ford a very nice automobile, to my good sense I checked to see what would have to be done to convert it for the United States. The very first thing I would have to do is replace the motor as there were not parts that would fit the motor and adapt to the US standards. The next thing is that I would have to replace the bumpers front and rear. After the new motor I would have to replace the exhaust system. Let me stop here as this list goes on and on the bottom line was that it was going to cost me about $8,000 to $10,000 to convert it to US standards. You might check in your state and find out about cars built before 1968 as this is when we started to do things to motors to make them cleaner. If I was looking for a neat way of having a much newer car for less dollars I would find me an Old VW and then I would go to Mexico and buy a new motor for a VW bug there and all new underpinnings the only thing that would be left would be the outside and a good body shop will take care of that. You would end up with a all new VW bug with an old body.
Answer:
yes
Answer:
You can. But to register it, you need a new title and you will have to pay taxes on it. It is easier to just sell it and buy in the US.
Answer:
You are suppose to register the car 30 days after bring it across the border. It the car doesn't meet USA specs it could cost you thousands to have it upgrade. We do have air quaility standard in the USA and the autos from Mexico might not meet them so beware of what you are getting.
