We are looking to buy a used car, and we are pre-approved from our bank for a loan. However, I do not know how much would be good to ask in order to pay for all that we would need to. Can anyone give a good estimation. For instance, the car is $13900, would $16000 be enough if we live in Texas. Thanks.

Answer:
Im in San Antonio, and can give you all of the Taxes and fees it would be:

13,900.00 Car Price

868.75 Texas Taxes

129.05 DMV Fees (could be as low as 35.50 for a title transfer depending year model)

35.35 Inventory Tax

50.00 Documentation

14,983.15 Total Drive Out Price

This can vary depending on Dealer - but this is all that would be REQUIRED to charge other than the Car Price itself.

Hope this helps….

Answer:
Typically estimate 10% more for tax, title and fees.

If you borrow more, but don't use it you won't get charged for not borrowing the money. (ie if you get approved for $20K, but only use $15K, you won't be charged for being approved for more)

So get approved for as much as you possibly can.

Answer:
You need to add in sales tax and dealer fees (if buying from a dealer).

If you are negotiating a price I'd add on a typical 10% to cover these additional costs.

Never finance the tag fees or insurance. You'd be crazy to pay interest for 5 years on a these fees.
