In Tennessee they ask for a copy of your liscense in case you beat the salesman over the head, dump him out on the side of the road, and steal the car during a test drive. Are they running your credit report during the test drive without your permission?

Answer:
It is illegal for the dealership to pull your credit without a signed credit application. If you find an inquiry by them if your Social Security # is on your license, then they broke the law.

Answer:
No, they do that to show that they got proof of you having a license incase you hit someone and don't have a licence.

Answer:
They can't without your social security number.

Answer:
Usually not. They need your Social Security number to run a credit report. If they ask for your SS#, refuse until you know you want to buy the car.

Answer:
They ask for it in Texas too its a little thing like verifying you will come back and something to hand to the police if you throw our salesman out and don't come back. Happened at my store. If you sign a credit application, you have in reality signed about 6-10 because most new computer application programs will shotgun an app out looking for the best buy rate on interest.

Answer:
They ask for your license to see if you have one, it's for insurance purposes and you couldn't drive the car without one. No, unless you have signed permission for them to run your credit, and given them you social security number, they can't run your credit.

Answer:
They cannot run your credit with just your license. You have to sign a paper authorizing them to rum your credit. Dont let everybody run your credit while car shopping. It can hurt your credit. If you are sure its the car you want them let them run your credit.

Answer:
The answer to your question has two parts.

1.) An automobile dealership asks for your driver's license when taking a vehicle on a test drive because of the Dealer's Insurance policy. Dealer insurance requires that test driving customer's carry a valid driver's license in case you were to ever wreck their vehicle on the drive. Insurance will not cover an uninsured motorist in the event of any damage incurred.

2.) A dealership needs a bit of information in order to run credit. They will need your full name, current address, AND social security number. They can find most of your info from your driver's license, but without your social they can't do anything. To add to that, they can't legally run your credit without written consent on a credit application.

If you haven't given them your social you shouldn't worry much. Although, there have been products available for dealers to be able to scan your driver's license and find what your credit score was the last time it was reported to the credit bureaus. This doesn't mean they are running it again, just that they can see what it was the last time you did run it. Most dealers don't have this product.

Answer:
They cant run your credit with just your drivers Licence…unless it has your social on it which you shouldnt have had on there anyway.

And unless you have signed something saying that they can, they are not allowed to run your credit at all!
