I'm thinking about buying this at a dealer..

It has 130,000 miles on it, automatic, non-turbo, looks nice..

I'm test driving it tomorrow.. I'm 17 looking for a first car..just to get me to school, and work..

There selling for 2900.. I'm going to offer 2000 I'm planning..

Overall good condition.. by what they say..runs good they say..

Anything I should be looking for when I test drive it? and what are the likely problems I will experience because it being 20 years old?

Answer:
just to get facts straight. the supra is not a rotary engined car, but rather an inline-6. i do not know a whole lot about the non-turbo automatic, but the 7m-ge engine is pretty good. I highly hilghy suggest getting a mechanic that knows his way around that model supra and have him/her look it over just to be on the safe side. You dont want to pull away from the dealer and then next week have a shot tranny. as for the milage, it is decently high so try and find out if the oil has been changed every 3K miles or so. If not you are looking at some problems that will result in you losing money rather than saving it. Hope this helped and good luck!

Answer:
It's a good car, but a couple of things - call you insurance company first to see how much it will cost for you. That will be considered a sports car, I'd expect very high insurance rates for a 17 yr old driver with that car, even without collision.

If you think that's ok, then I'd say definitely pay a good mechanic to go over the car. If there's nothing obviously wrong with the engine or transmission, it's probably a good deal, but if either will need major repairs that bill could exceed how much you pay up front. It's 20 yrs old - lots of things could be failing soon.

Good luck

Answer:
Im not exactly sure..b/c thats a rotary engine..correct? But basics, check for oil leaks, radiator leaks, smells, check for puddles, try and let it sit running for awhile in the same spot and see if there oil leakage. Im not sure if those are good cars or not, Im a domestic guy. But just look for the basics. 130,000 isnt bad at all really mileage wise..have anyone you can bring that knows about cars? Like a mechanic..also when you are asking how it runs and such see how the dealer reacts..stuttering, slow talk, changing subjects..always signs something could be wrong.
