I'm thinking about buying a 2000 Ford Expedition. Its 11, 485. It has like 83K miles on it. I'm really weary about buying used. My mother in the past has bought 3 lemons in a row and I'm scared of getting stuck with a dud. Plus I'd hate to pay almost 12K…more with interest, on a car and have like the transmission or engine die on me soon after. I read somewhere (online article) that extended warrenties were a waste of money…what do you think?

Oh, the outside of the car is nice…good condition. Looks well taken care of. Its a 5.4L V8 and its RWD, leather seats, and has power everything…windows, locks, mirrors.

I'm pretty nieve when it comes to cars. How long do you think a SUV (well taken care of) can last? I mean 83,000 seems a lot to me. I've already got the salesman taking to me about it, but their like vultures and try to sugar coat everything. "This car will last you forever" type of stuff.

Anybody have an Expedition and what do you like or dislike about it?

Answer:
Extended Warranties are not a waste of money if they are backed by the manufacturer , however an Expedition with 83k miles doesn't qualify for a Manufacture Extended Warranty.

Another thing that I would think about is the fact that it's RWD. Depending on where you live, and SUV of that size can sometimes be tricky to drive in extreme conditions.

Unless you need the space, I would suggest looking for a smaller SUV or even a car. You would really be better off finding a newer car with low miles that comes with a Manufacturer Certified Pre-Owned warranty. These are backed by the factory and good at any dealership Good luck and I hope this helps.

Answer:
first off that is way too much for a 2000 model think about it 12 grand for a vehicle that is 8 years old…. second its a ford so you can expect to have problems… sorry but its the cold truth!

Answer:
It's OK to buy a used car, but probably not a Ford. Especially without a warranty. If your going to spend 12 grand on a used car, your safest bet would be to buy a Toyota or Honda. Toyota makes a SUV (Sequoia) that compares to the Expedition. You should be able to get a 2001 Sequoia for about $13-14,000, and it will be much more reliable. 83,000 miles is nothing for a Toyota. Toyota's typically last 250,000 miles.
