I would go out on a limb and state that it is on par with the “best” American offerings and “as good” as Japanese vehicles. I heard they're reliable,my folks just purchased a saturn,and this is the way they look at it,if it's junk they have the ability to sell it,so if thats what you want go for it,i mean we have to live and learn,and remember if it's junk,sell it or trade it in on something else.They thought about going with a KIA but they went with the other.

98 Acura CL, 98 Ford Mustang V6, 98 Honda Accord or Civic, 98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder, 98 Subaru Impreza or Legacy, 98 -00 Toyota Corolla or Echo 00
these are all reliable and will last longer than other vehicles in this price range.
for around $6k an Acura Integra 98-99 is a great automobile.

If it were BRAND new and you have the luxury of a 100k mile warranty and had no intention of keeping the automobile that long then ok maybe!! But to buy a used spectra for 4000 when a brand spanking new one is less than 10k why would you?
