Question about haggling?

Author: admin

I am going to go purchase a automobile this weekend. I know that in these tough economic times, I’ve the upper hand over the dealership. I’m trying to see if I can get a 15,000.00 vehicle for around 11,000.00. Is this too low, or is it fair to ask them to knock 4,000.00 off the price? Am I likey to be successful?

Answer:
I like to find a vehicle I like and find the same thing in the classifieds that is a lot less then take that ad to the dealer and ask them to match the price, that way you’ve some advantage over them.stick to your low ball price, all they can state is no

Answer:
Depends on if it's new or used. And even if it's used they probably don't have $4000.00 of markup in the price. And if it's a new automobile then good luck with getting a dealer to that price. Even on our new Cobalts with a current $3000.00 rebate it would be hard for us to be able to justify giving another $1000.00 off of the automobile when we don't have that kind of markup on one that’s $15,000.00. Heck I don't even have that kind of markup on one that's $20,000.00.

Answer:
How much you can get discounted depends on which car. However…to find out how low the dealer can go, just look up the dealer invoice price on Yahoo! Autos. They can't go much lower than that, plus destination charges and TT&L. Keep in mind the rebates, though. Some cars have them and some don't.

Answer:
It depends on a lot of things. Certain vehicles like Hondas are in demand a lot, so they are a lot less apt to give much (if ANY) discount.

A Hyundai or Kia on the other hand, is NOT in demand, so they’re more apt to deal.

SUV's are being discounted by THOUSANDS.

Prius's are being marked UP these days, so like I said, it depends.

Answer:
That's not gonna happen.

They’ll give you a lower price, but then you will have a higher down payment. They get the money one way of the other.

Smaller car prices are going up too.

Answer:
Is the automobile brand new? That's over a 25% discount. That might be a tiny to aggressive on a brand new vehicle. But getting 20% off retail MSRP should be simple.

Answer:
The best way to get the price you want it to have a hefty down payment or pay cash.
