I need to buy a vehicle like right away and i narrowed it down to two choices … one is a 99 chevy cavalier and the current owner states its in great condition and has 120,000 miles selling for $1,400 and the other choice is a 99 dodge stratus with 120,000 miles selling for $1,400 owner states its also in great condition. They both have the same price and are said to be in great condition so if both turn out to be great running automobiles equally which is more reliable of the 2. I really need good answers gotta buy soon.

I looked them both up on edmonds.com they both seem to get good reviews and have their fans. I used to own a 96 Cavalier, I bought it used at about 100,000 miles and then drove it up to about 220,000 miles still wish i'd kept it never had a drop of trouble.

Cavalier's are a pretty close to the reliability of a Stratus, if not more reliable. Cavalier's are smaller than a Stratus and usually get better gas mileage, and overall are a more desired vehicle, so it will hold it's value better if you ever want to sell it.
One way to check the reliability of a automobile is to look at the production numbers and call the junkyard and ask how many they’ve of each one, and if they have the same production numbers then go with the one with the least amount in the junkyard. Last time I went to the junkyard, I saw a lot of Dodge's.
I would definitely get the cavalier, $1,400 is pretty cheap for a 1999 Cavalier with that many miles and that condition.

I've owned 2 Cavaliers. I had a 1996 that I purchased with 96k miles. (it was my first car) and I traded that one in with 178k miles for a 2003 Cavalier Z24 that had 36k on it. They both ran like champs and I never had any major problems with either one. (I traded the 2nd one in with 65k) Plus I got great MPG with both and I have a lead foot.

I would go with the cavalier–you can drive them into the ground! But if you're not sure–you could always take them into a repair shop for a pre-buy look over–it usually doesent cost much–also check out vehicle review sites–there are a ton on the web where all people do is blog about how much they hate their cars–you can learn a lot about what can go wrong with a car before you purchase!
