each company (domestic and foreign ) makes good automobiles and every one makes crap. I had a '94 ford ranger go until 225,000 miles when the engine finally gave out, it never had a major mechanical problem before that. That was a damn fine truck and I was sorry to see it go, but the cost of a new engine couldn't be justified. Its all about how well you take care of it and if you keep up on maintenance. But one thing is for sure, Japanese made cars require made Japanese parts so there is price premium on those parts because they are not made domestically. Not many people think about that until they need to have there import fixed. So “better” is a subjective term, to outright say all imports are superior is foolish because that’s not true in all cases. I've seen some POS hondas in my day, same with VW's.
Answer:
In general, yes. But American cars have been rapidly improving for a number of years and many models now rival the ideal Japanese brands.
Unfortunately, American carmakers seem to think they must change their vehicles each year and it's like starting all over again in terms of quality and reliability. Japanese carmakers build a great automobile and improve it year to year, but don't make wholesale changes as do the Americans. Quality and reliability are more consistent.
Answer:
over the past 10 year without a doubt
but in the past few years the lines are blurred
as some Japanese care are built in the US
even Buick has scored some high marks for quality.
but if your looking for a used automobile, no doubt the Honda or Toyota is going to be a better deal than the Dodge or Chevy.

I own a foreign car, Hyundai Elantra, it has 157,000 miles on it now, when I bought it, it had 7,000 miles so me and my car have gone thru some years and some milages together!! and she still hasnt let me down, usually automobile maintenance but nothing seriously wrong has happened with her, stilll purrs like a kitten. But Im thinking of buying a truck, need one, have horses, need the truck for hauling a trailer, race car too. have to have one but dont know which one is the ideal mid size to get, I wouldnt have an american car, my experience they arent built as good, they dont last as long. they just seem to fall apart. I would stick with the foreigns for now anyways. wish the american made would last longer but they dont……
Answer:
yes.
right now, i think ford just matched the value on there ford fussion to some car in toyota.
but the import vehicle will fix there problem real fast not like american vehicles which would take a while, until there next model or so.
for example toyota came out with a all new truck last year, and it had a lot of new outgoing stuff that made hard work easier. but now the 07 f-150 models(i think its the 07 not sure) ford has changed there towing and rear susp. to the outside to the leaf spring. they state it changed the way it drived. Its true but you would have to be a truck driver to feel the differences but im pretty sure u could feel a nice smoothier ride on the newer models.
hope this helps.
