Nobody in this thread is overstating your liability. You know what you have to do. Maybe you'd like some advise as to what to say to your relative. T
Tell him you did some research, and you found out that you would be committing a crime by letting him drive a automobile registered in your name. Tell him that if anything happens, and that anything can be as easy as him getting rear ended at a stop light or going through a random sobriety and registration checkpoint, you’ll lose your insurance, face criminal prosecution, and will have to deal with the loan, as he won't be able to pay it from jail. You will also lose your own license. You'll be open to lawsuits from other drivers in accidents, even if they were at fault. You'll spend a decade on pricey SR22 assigned risk insurance, once you get your license back. Tell him that it doesn't matter how careful he is, as the whole house of cards would collapse for any number of reasons beyond his control. You don't even need to get into the part about him being a demonstrated irresponsible person who wants to put your credit rating at dire risk. These are plenty of good reasons already not to engage in this criminal enterprise. Last of all, point out how this is all so he has the ability to save a lousy $30 a week on gas. Would you put yourself into this much danger to save YOURSELF $30 a week? Ridiculous. If he doesn't accept your reasons, he is a selfish person that you'll be doing well to distance yourself from.
Answer:
This is bad all the way around. Here are a few things that could go wrong:
1. He gets involved in an accident and the person he hits sues you for knowingly providing a car to someone without a license.
2. He quits paying you for the car, you can't afford the payment, the vehicle gets repossessed and your credit is ruined.
3. He wrecks the car and your insurance refuses to pay for it since the drivers was not licensed (VERY LIKELY).
Answer:
If it were me, I'd tell the relative “too bad, so sad, but I can't help you”. This is a disaster just waiting to happen. He can trash the vehicle you are ultimately responsible for financially, while limiting your borrowing ability until the outstanding loan is paid off. Why does he need a car anyway if his license is suspended? You'll do what you're going to do, but this is a bad decision from each angle.
Answer:
You will have to insure the automobile since it is in your name with the lien holder. You’ll then give it to a person you know has their license suspended. Therefore, your insurance won’t cover any accident that vehicle is involved in and if he doesn't make the payments, you will be stuck with them or your credit will be destroyed.
That is an extremely bad idea any way you look at it…
Answer:
don't do it
if he gets in a wreck or a ticket it can come back to you.
don't make his problems your problems
his license is suspended for some reason, so he shouldn't be driving.
what possible good could come from this?
Answer:
BAD
If he’s in an accident, you’ll be liable
If he does not pay, you’re responsible….it will hurt your credit and you will HAVE TO PAY
You will have to keep it insured with HIS NAME on the policy, and he does not have a license
Answer:
If he gets into wreck, the other celebration finds out that he got car through you, they could sue you too for enabling him. No limit to a lawyers mind. I wouldn’t touch it. Sounds like someone has a serious problem with DUI. Why make it worse.
Answer:
Don't do it. His license is suspended and he doesn't have the credit to pay for it himself. If you do this, you're going to get burned one way or another and end up on “Judge Judy.”
Answer:
The automobiles history would be questionable with no repair history to refer to.
Answer:
You can loose your license over this, end up with a payment, and you'd be responsible for the insurance too! H@ll no!
Answer:
wow what a sticky situation. i would stay clear out of it unless you want large trouble!
Answer:
tell him to sell his suv….If he has an accident, you are going to jail. you granted him to drive your car, on a suspended lic.there fore you are directily responsable. you ins. dump you. bottom line ,if you did this foer him, do you think he would take such a foolish chance for you, i doubt it. doing this for him, is more reckless than marring your first wife for thr third time!!!!
