The late '90s-early 2000s model Jettas were not the most reliable. Electrical problems were rampant. Before you even think about it, make sure a mechanic inspects it thoroughly. Mileage-wise, it sounds good (usually, you average 12-15,000 miles per year). However, it's still an 8-yr old vehicle and apt to trouble.
