I am looking to purchase a 'new' car. not completely new but new to me. lol. i have no idea what i want or what is even a good choice. right now i have a truck, so i need something that will save on gas, has 4 doors, and is safe. Any ideas?

Answer:
Research research research. I recently purchased a Ford Taurus after looking through eBay Motors. This is a good place to find out details of various vehicles you have an interest in, also to give you an idea of what to look for in the price range. (eBay seemed to be higher priced compared to private sales and some automobile lots).

What I've found: Cars that seem to be a dime a dozen, usually are. Chevy Cobalts are pretty popular and can get a gently used one for a decent price. Hondas and Toyotas are reliable and typically good on gas, but the resale value seems to be pretty high. Not sure what your price range is, Nissan cars are pretty good for reliability and gas mileage.

Answer:
compact car. if safety is pretty high on your list, stay away from the sub-compacts (like the honda fit or the toyota yaris). I'd state the new civic, corolla or lancer.

if safety is that large a concern and you got large bucks, go get a lexus IS200, or a 3-series beamer, Volvo S40, audi A4, or a C-class merc. they're pretty much the safest anywhere you go.
