i recently purchased two pioneer premier TS-W3001D4. as i only had a shitty store purchased sub box the big magnet from the premier didnt fit…so i mounted them magnet out…first question? do i have to reverse the and - as i have turned the sub around? cause i must admit it sounds pretty average with the on the and the - on the -!!!…
second question is i want to make a custom box to fit the things but i dont know what would be the ideal frequency to tune them to?
any help?
thanks!
Answer:
zoyks is wrong on both…
1.) if you invert your subs you need to also swap the and - to keep them in phase with the other speakers. otherwise, when the others push out, the subs will push in and visa-versa.
2.) for the box….look at the manual to get the suggested volume and tuning freq. i suggest about 30-36Hz is usually a good range for a car. the tuning comes from the length of the port (the longer the deeper, the shorter the higher the freq) the port area (opening) is determined by the size of the box, the x-max of the sub and the power your giving the subs. a general rule is to do 12-16sq” of port per 1cu' of box volume. also remember that the port volume is not counted as part of the box volume (eg: if you need a 2cu' box and you port volume is .25cu', then you total internal box volume will be 2.25cu'….plus what ever the sub displacement is.) if you want i can help you design a box….lmk.

first ?'s answer:
no, don’t reverse the input polarity. some woofers are made with spiders that only grant the cone to move more oneway than the other. doing so can cause your speakers voice coil to bottom out and ruin the voice coils cylinder piston.
second ?'s answer:
just read the instructions that came with the woofers. it should tell you how much space per speaker is required. you then can customized the shape of the box still keeping its requied space. if you vent the box, it can be manually tuned by the width and length of the air tubes that goes in the vent holes. short pipe means deeper bass and longer pipe means higher bass notes.
Answer:
keep the wires with the to the and the - to the - and for the second question just make the box alittle bigger and put the magnet on the inside that will give you what you’ve bin missing Book Mark it-> del.icio.us | Reddit | Slashdot | Digg | Facebook | Technorati | Google | StumbleUpon | Window Live | Tailrank | Furl | Netscape | Yahoo | BlinkList
