I just bought a 1 farad rockford fosgate capacitor for my cars sound systems. It is not charged and i plan on using it for my subwoofers. I need to charge it but i dont no how. I know i need to charge it with another battery can i use my automobile battery? How would i do that?

Answer:
Yes you can use your car battery. If you purchased it new then it should have came with a charging resistor. If not, here is how I charge them.

1) You’ll need a 12 volt test light.

2) Use a piece of wire (guage don't matter for charging purposes) to connect the (-) side of the cap directly to the (-) side of your battery.

3) Clip the ground clip of a test light to the ( ) side of the battery.

4) connect the tip of the test light to the ( ) side of the cap. (The test light will illuminate)

5) Wait for the test light to dim down and totally stop illuminating.

The cap is now charged and ready to install at the amp.

Answer:
I don't know why you would want to do that but you could charge it from a vehicle battery with something in series with it to limit the inrush current. A resistor or a light bulb would work.
