I get the concept of shifting up and down im not dumb so please dont post stupid stuff. I ussually shift up around 4k rpm but when im downshifting it gets really touchy. I know the audi will automatically downshift, but it kicks a tiny, and i know that i can switch it to automatic when im stopping, but i want to know how i should downshift or at what rpms is it good too. thanks.

You should be down shifting below 2k rpm at the most. I dont really know why anyone uses it, the personal still does everything for you and its still not like a manual. I personally never use it in my vehicle becuase the computer still knows when its better to shift (the computer has different shifting modes depending on how heavy you are on the gas).

I think your problem is that you're probably shifting into 1st before you come to a complete stop. General rule is not to downshift to first until you're stopped, and tippy should do that for you. The only real function for 1st gear is to get you moving from a stop. And remember, it's a helluva lot cheaper to replace brake pads and rotors every once in a while than replace the transmission after putting that strain on it using it to engine-brake.

That kick is normal.

I have driven many tiptronic and semi automatic vehicles. All of them are like that with downshifting.

Even downshifting with manual automobiles is rough.

The first gear is the most jerky. You can't get around it.

I usually shift into auto instead of first - and let the computer shift into first (in my Audi Tiptronics).

the tip is pointless unless it is snowy… do your vehicle a favor and stay in “d” or “s”… once you get a new tranny it is never the same
