I’ve a little orange light that has come up on the dashboard of my BMW. I’ve only recently purchased it and it disn't come with a handbook so was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is for?

It looks like a square with waves inside it.

Answer:
low coolant!

Answer:
first thing you should do is ask a mechanic if they know what it is and why it does not go off, asking is free getting them to do it costs. 2nd purchase a book from your local auto parts store for it. I found this helps a great deal when asking mechanic for help, this way you know where this problem starts and if you can do it yourself

Answer:
This is just an add-on to the first poster. If you purchase a book for your BMW (which I recommend as well)… make sure and get the Bentley manual. Don't get the Haynes or Chilton– worthless. The Bentley manual is the bible for any BMW (Audi, porshces, and pretty much any other German car as well).

Answer:
this is probably stability and traction control
