Answer:
Where the trailing arms are attached to the torsion bars there’s a rear arm bearing, if this has failed or collapsed then you may see the suspension 'sagging' on that side. To check this jack up that back corner of your vehicle and with the wheel clear of the ground grip the tyre at about 8 o'clock as you look at it, with one hand on the outer and one hand on the inner edges of the tyre try to wiggle the wheel in and out. If you feel ANY play or clunkiness then the bearing is knackered.
It is also possibly a broken torsion bar. If you look at the rear axle you will see that there is one thick bar with 2 thinner bars either side of it. The thinner bars are fixed at one end and attached to a trailing arm at the other end, one bar for each side with the thick bar acting as the axle and fixing point.
If one of these thinner bars is broken (which i doubt very much) then the suspension on one side would sag heavily. The torsion bar might not be broken but could be damaged instead.
If you still can't see what’s causing your suspension to sag take it to a garage and get them to check it out, but tell them NOT to fix it.
If it turns out to be a damaged torsion bar you may find it is cheaper and easier to buy a complete rear subframe from a breakers yard and to replace the whole thing.
To partially strip the rear suspension in order to replace a torsion bar takes longer than dropping the subframe and swapping brakes etc onto the replacement subframe.
To replace the subframe i would expect to do it in 3 hours, and i would expect a subframe from a breakers to be cheaper than a new torsion bar.
