Going down the highway at 60 MPH my 2004 dodge neon did this shutter thing twice and I thought it was the tires so I pulled over and checked….tires are good…..when I started the automobile the check engine light was on…..not blinking….just on. What could this be? I don't want to pay for diagnostics if I don't have to I’m hoping just a filter or something????? Please help I am a woman that was unemployed for 4 months and have just gotten a new job and have a lot of catchup to do!!!! Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thank you

Lori

Answer:
you can take it by any auto zone store and they’ll scan the personal and tell you whats causing the light to come on,and they don't charge for doing this its free, that's the only way to find out for sure what its doing ,you cant guess at what it is,there's too many things that’ll make the cel light come on,good luck with it.

Answer:
it is a code from a fault in a sensor likely. once the check engine light comes on it is a engine code. with the check engine light on it will burn more gas. chepest way to mend it is to pull the positive battery cable off for 2 minutes. this will erase the computer codes. if it comes back on you will have to see someone with a code reader to get the code to know the problem. if your lucky and it was a piece of dirt that passed through or a bit of water that made it miss the light should stay off. but if a sensor went you’ll have to get it checked.

Answer:
A common misconception is that the diagnostic code tells you what part to replace. The fact is the code will indicate the area or affected component, it will take some pinpoint tests to find the exact point of failure. That can be relatively simple or extremely difficult, depending on the failure.

Likely codes that cause a CEL are ignition secondary misfire codes, coil pack failures, spark plug, spark plug wires, and fuel filler caps left loose.
