my dad and i are going to buy a new honda civic but he’s completely against getting a sunroof.
he thinks that the sunroof might leak and is worried about not being able to get it insured. are his arguments reasonable? the automobile is only going to be driven in the suburbs.
Answer:
My 94 Civic has sunroof - still don't leak. So I think that’s unfounded.
The insurance isn’t much more (if at all).

But from time to time, it will get stuck shut. But after 14 years, that's only expected.
Good Luck…
P.S. I love sunroof over side windows.

The more massive question is how much you’re willing to spend. In a Civic, the sunroof is only available in the EX trim level, which is approx. $2000.00 higher than the LX mid-level trim, their biggest seller. You get a lot for the money, though. The EX also has steering wheel radio controls, 4-wheel disc brakes, and alloy wheels to name a few things. There should be no problem with leaking, since these are factory sunroofs, and I have personally owned several vehicles with sunroofs or T-tops and I’ve never had a leak in any of them. I selected not to buy a new Honda Civic EX in Might '07 just because I didn't think it was worth the extra cost. I bought the LX instead. BTW, our second car is an '08 Nissan Rogue with a sunroof and we’ve no complaints.

I have a 2003 Honda Accord coupe with a full moon roof and it works perfectly and is totally sealed when it is closed. Insurance has nothing to do with insurance. Having a moonroof is so much fun and it adds a great feature to your vehicle. I would absolutely advocate a moonroof. Honda's are built so well and the moonroof will not leak. So many of my friends have Honda's with moonroofs and NOT ONE of them have ever had a problem! Good luck!
Answer:
My sister's 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix's sunroof does not leak after 11 years and 200,000 miles. My mom's 2002 Subaru Outback with 90,000 miles has sunroof that does not leak.
I would be more worried of an aftermarket sunroof leaking than a factory one.
I have a sunroof in my 2008 Accord Coupe and I didn’t have any problems insuring the automobile. It would cost the same without the sunroof.
Answer:
I had both a 90 and 93 accord with sunroofs, they never leaked or got stuck.
Also, having a sunroof doesn't change your insurance rates, that would make no sense; that's the same logic as saying your insurance will go up if you’ve power mirrors, which of course it doesn't. Your dad is really misinformed.
Answer:
I think ur dad's aguments r not reasonable if its only driven in the suburbs then having a sunroof would be nice but if it rains or snows, and you put ur automobile in the garage then the water or snow wouldn’t get it but if you leave your vehicle on the drive way then you could put like some sort of tarp on it! best of luck
