Does the santa fe require premium unleaded?

no, its not reccomended. causes cold start issues. the higher the octane, the less flamable the gas is which is why it is recommended in high compression vehicles to help prevent pre detonation. hyundai reccomends 87 octane

It uses regular 83 octane and higher.
It could also use midgrade or premium if you want to use it. But there are no benefits from using premium gas except an extra 5HP.
