i have a 1964 lincoln can any one tell me whats behind the track it looks like some sort of compartment whats up with that?

Is it a Lincoln,or Mercury? The full sized Mercs of that era had an optional 3-piece back window,with the center section sliding into that compartment,no different than a multiple-piece back window for a pick-up truck.
