Standard is rear wheel drive but starting in '98, 4Matic ( all wheel drive ) was made as an option on the E-Class.

It's simple to tell the difference between the two just by looking at the VIN no. It will start with WDBJF ( or the “F” will be a “H” if this is a station wagon ) and then 2 numbers. If the first two numbers are “65″, it's a rear wheel drive. If it's “82″, it a 4Matic.

Answer:
Its actually all wheel drive, much like Audi's famed quattro system. The model you’re looking at might have 4-matic (all wheel drive)

Answer:
On only the 4matic models. The “4″ means, considering you mean 4 as in “E430″, means the vehicle has a 4.3 liter v8 engine.

Answer:
Your E-Class has a 4-speed automatic transmission.

It will have a “4-matic” badge on the trunk lid if it's 4wd.
