I'd love to get this cute vintage vehicle but don't really know what I'm in for. Does anyone know what kinds of problems to anticipate, how many miles do they normally last etc. Also, am I going to spend a fortune on the maintenance of the vehicle? Good news is the owner now has taken great care of it. Foreseeable problems are: fuel pump has a small leak; sometimes the starter grinds, which indicates that this may go out at some point as well (tumbler replaced 6 months ago); and there is no climate control Does anyone know if it's worth the $7,000 it's going for?

Any advice out there?

Answer:
If its a diesel go for it.Gasser, well change timing chain at 150,000 miles, flex disk when cracks are visable.Diesel chain every 200,000.

Buying a diesel and converting it to free fuels, has put food on the families table.

While that era of Mercedes Benz is generally reliable it's an almost 40 year old automobile. Will the owner be replacing all the problem issues with the automobile before delivering it to you?

I personally don't think the automobile is worth 7 grand but if you’ve to ask whether or not the vehicle will cost a fortune to own then it isn’t the car for you. If you’re determined to buy this automobile take it to a trusted Mercedes Benz technician of your choice and have them do a PPI (Private Celebration Inspection). It will be the best hundred bucks or so you'll spend.

Answer:
Plain to see that automobile is years past the sweet spot of its low mainenance days. I would never trust a automobile that old unless I planned on working on it full time.

Seems a little expensive to me. I bought my 1988 300E for $1400 (it WAS from a friend and was originally priced at $2800).

I’m needing to get mine through a tune-up in order to get through Colorado emissions and I am fearful of the cost factor, but I love my car and it needs to be done. It runs great, but as an example…

I went on the internet to a Merecdes wholesaler to look into updating my rims - one is missing the M-B plug - and was SHOCKED to see that they were $200 EACH!!!!

Think carefully and if you do purchase it - like it. They’re awesome cars.
