the factory code will always work even if you’ve a personal code in your system. If you don't have a factory code, you’ll need go to a local L-M dealer, and they have the ability to retrieve that code through the the vehicle's computer or VIN (some of the pre-2000 models you can retieve with the VIN only.
Some car prior to 03 had the code stuck on the trunk lid underside…if this is gone - a dealer is your only help in this case.
