either you are low on refrigerant or you’ve a failing low pressure switch.

check the clutch to the compressor may need to be replaced. If the clutch fails then the compressor can't engage regardless of the amount of freon in the a/c.

normally the clutch will kick in and out or on and off (cylcing) depending on the outside air temp or where you have the switch set inside your vehicle. Keep the “cold/hot” temp control slightly below the coldest position…

Try “normal” then “max” a/c to see if you get any difference in your operation. Also all automobiles by US manufacturers also in DEF the compressor should operate unless the air temp is under 40 degress outside.
