that car as my next buy. If anyone can, please see if there’s anything on Consumerreports.org for that automobile. Thank you!

Answer:
People need to be educated about the Eclipse. These people who keep reiterating to buy American need to keep it quiet. The ECLIPSE IS MADE IN AMERICA!!!!! In Normal, Illinois!!! It's as an American vehicle as the Chevy Cobalt. American jobs employing Americans. KEEP IT IN MIND!!!

Going back to your question, certain Eclipses have their particular problems. The 95-99 GS and RS have problems with oil leaks. The head gaskets were of low quality because the 420a engine was built by Chrysler. The 2.4L engine found in the GS Spyder was superior built because Mitsubishi built it. The GST and the GSX are well built and have the venerable 4g63 engine. The only problem is, the people who buy them tend to drive them hard thinking it'll never break down. So when the engine breaks, they blame the manufacturer. Duh!!! My nephew owns a '98 GSX and the car is great. He doesn't drive like a maniac of course. I own a altered '95 Eclipse GS and it still runs great. I, of course, had the head gasket problem ( thanks Chrysler! ). Had the gasket replaced with a superior quality gasket and the car runs superior than ever. My cousin owns a 2000 Eclipse GT with 150 thousand miles on it. He still adores it. He hasn't even tuned the automobile up, and it still runs well. My other cousin owns a '90 Plymouth Laser ( a rebadged Eclipse under the DSM umbrella ). He still has it and it's immaculate. He doesn't allow dust to settle on the automobile (what a dork). So you see, our family owns 3 generations of the Eclipse. So far we all are satisfied.

Consumer Reports has the predicted reliability of the Eclipse as above average. A lot of times the scores are usually low in their tests so although the Eclipse has a better than average predicted reliability, the automobile always misses their suggestion.

Answer:
Eddie is right for the most part. I own a 1991 Eagle Talon TSi AWD, it is the same as an Eclipse GSX with different bumpers and badges. I like my automobile but it does break all the time; with that stated, it is an 18-year-old automobile and it is expected. When it is running correctly (not often), it is ridiculously quick and powerful.

I wouldn’t suggest buying any Eclipse prior to the year 2000 unless you feel comfortable working on your own automobile (or you have a ton of money and don't care). The second generation Eclipse/Talon were also apt to crank walk. They’re fun project cars and are a great platform to build a racecar, but again, unless you like to work on vehicles and have the time to do so, I would recommend something else. Hope that helps.

Don't listen to rattlingmurdock. My 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer had one part fail in 7 years and 90,000 miles. The backup light switch went out. The part cost $10 from the dealership and took 5 minutes to change out.

Parts do not necessarily cost more just because the automobile was made in Japan.

My 1997 Chevy S10 had an out of round front driveshaft yoke from the factory. At 40,000 miles it broke the rear seal, causing the transmission gear oil to dump all over the highway. The truck was 3,000 miles out of warranty, Chevy didn't care, and it cost nearly $2,000 to have the transmission rebuilt. The fuel pump went out at 45,000 miles. It cost me $200 for the part and I had to drop the gas tank to put it in. The alternator went out at 60,000 miles, another $100.

My 1997 Ford F250 diesel had the fuel pump fail twice in 11 years and 130,000 miles. Each time it cost me $400 for the part, $25 for a new fuel filter, and about 5 hours to change it out.

Answer:
i concur with the 1st guy. i had a mit eclipse year 1990 and it had major problems. once one thing breaks down, everything breaks down. and because it's foreign, it will be more costly. and harder to find parts. my opinion? don't get one. but if you must, make sure to save up enough money to get it fixed when something happens.

good luck!

Answer:
Never buy a Mitsubishi, they're only good for constant fixes, especially an Eclipse, and are more high-priced to mend because they’re foreign. It's your choice but I strongly advise you not to follow through with a buy.

Answer:
It really depends on the year I'm not sure on newer models, but the 1995-1999 models gs-t and gsx have a tendency to have motor problems. I had a 1999 RS and loved it though.

Answer:
It is a consumer reports do not buy with all engines and models. Get a Toyota Scion.
