If it does have a timing belt, when should I change it?

And what else do you have to do besides a timing belt and water pump? any seals or anything else nissan suggests? I DON'T HAVE AN OWNERS MANUAL!

Answer:
It has a timing belt and you should replace it at 100,000 miles along with the water pump and camshaft oil seals. You might want to replace the thermostat and crankshaft seal as well. Here are part numbers and prices.

Cam seals: 1304216V00 $10.03 x2

Timing belt: 1302845P86 $49.27

Water pump: 2101022P27 $114.88

Thermostat: 2120042L01 $21.12

Crankshaft oil seal: 1304216V00 $10.03

Nissan recommends are the 60k maint package, which includes the timing belt, thermostat, water pump, cam seals, inlet and outlet water hoses (with clamps). This is the most expensive maint package. The good thing is that it will not require extra time to replace everything listed because you’ve to remove all that stuff to get to timing belt. The cheapest route would be to purchase the parts yourself from the local auto parts store and let Nissan do the work. All the parts will run about 180.00 and Nissan will only charge the 5 or 6 hours of work about 600.00. If you get the parts from NIssan add another 400. Also good luck on maint manual because you’ll not find one. Z's only have a tech manual which you will either have to order from Nissan (over a 100,00) or try and get one off ebay. On ebay they run btwn 50 -80. Don’t get the cd manual. they don't have all the tips on testing parts like the tech manual does.

Answer:
Go to Pep Boys and get a Chilton work manual for the car before attempting an timing belt/waterpump change. The owners manual isn't going to go into nearly enough detail to do this job. If memory serves the Nissan 300ZX has a belt not a chain. If it has belt tensioners you'll want to change those, also have to check the condition of the belt sprockets…if they are worn, those will need to be replaced.

Answer:
Buy a shop manual at an auto parts store and if it has a lot of miles and has not been done before I would definetly have it done. If you don't know if it's been done…. have your local mechanic take a look.
