I’ve a 2004 350z and the specs states it has 20 gal tank. When I am on empty (light is on) and I fill up, it will never reach 16 gallons. Think the specs are wrong?
Answer:
that automobile has a gas tank that is shaped like a saddle bag when you begin to fill up the fuel enters one side of the tank and them overflows to the other side. still you should take it to the dealer and have them check the fuel neck and check you guage for any problems.
Answer:
It could be one of 2 issues.
1) your fuel gauge might be miscalibrated. So, when it's reading empty, it's not actually empty. This is the most likely problem. The fuel sending unit in the fuel tank might not be calibrated correctly (because it basically just uses a float in the tank).
2) the fuel tank isn't actually full when you fill it up. When you fill up with gas, the fuel pump stops automatically when it detects increased pressure in the tank as it gets full. That's how it knows when to halt. If your fuel filler is too narrow, it could fool the gas pump into thinking the tank is full, when actually it's not.
But it's most likely problem #1

no you just didnt run it dry or out all automobiles are like that.. my automobile i can drive about 40 miles or more with light on .. its not wrong it just not out of gas and when it runs out it stil might not hold 20 gallon for there will be a small part inside that it cant suck up kind of like a milk shake when you ge to the bottom there’s always a bit more that you cant suck out
Answer:
It's either you have a heavy foot or something is up with your vehicle. I mostly get 24 mileage from daily driving. You should be getting where I am getting, if you dont have a heavy foot. The specs are correct you should be getting around mid 20's depending on how you drive.
Answer:
most mfgs' make sure the light comes on before you run out of gas so that you don't wind up stuck oon the side of the road, it's the same with my truck ,specs say 70 ltr and I only get 60 ltr in.
