I am above average for mechanically enclined. I’ve a 95 Nissan Altima that the the Distributor O-Ring gave out. Rather than replace the O-Ring I’m going to replace the Distributor assembly. My question is, what do I need to be concerned with as far as timing goes on the engine? Am I able to just take the screws out, pull the old one off, and put the new one on? It sounds as though I’ve to be concerned about timing but have never dealt with that before. Any and all help is appreciated.
Answer:
If the distributor or crank angle sensor oring gave out I would just replace that. It is a lot cheaper than the distributor. Unless it is leaking oil out of the distributor cap. I would make a paint mark on the engine to the distributor. Pull the cap off and make a mark on the rotor also. There should be just to lugs that line up on the end of the distributo when u reninstall it. you might have to move the distributor a little bit when you put it back in. Go onto Autozone web site and you can print off instructions on how to do it.
Answer:
The slot drive of the distributor is made off set,so that it only goes in one way, just align it in to the camshaft female end,it has to go in easily, flush with the cylinder head before tighten the bolts.
Answer:
ok first bump it over and line up timing marks down on the front pulley lift cap off and look at where the rotor button is pointing remove bolt or nut holding and lift out replace the same way Book Mark it-> del.icio.us | Reddit | Slashdot | Digg | Facebook | Technorati | Google | StumbleUpon | Window Live | Tailrank | Furl | Netscape | Yahoo | BlinkList
