I'm looking at buying a 2006 Chevy Silverado with 23k miles on it from a private seller. Does anyone know if I can still buy an extended warranty from a dealership? I know Ford will let you buy one if the truck has less than 36k miles on it. Is it the same with other brands??
Answer:
I own a shop, and this is what I think; The only way to get the "true" answer is to call a dealer, and see what they have to offer. In my opinion many extended warranties aren't worth buying. Once you read the fine print in most of them, you will see what I mean. Case in point: I saw one warranty that covered the transmission, but once I read the fine print; it covered the transmission case, and not the inside working parts, so what good was that? It is extremely important to fully read any extended warranty "before" signing on the dotted line. What is covered, and what is not covered, may be a lot less than what you "think" you are getting. Many people think an extended warranty is the same as the factory warranty, but its not. If the transmission case is covered, but not the insides, then you don't have anything you can use in 99% of claims you may have. I'm not saying all of them are this way, but reading, understanding, and purchasing a warranty that you can benefit from, can be a nightmare sometimes.
Glad to add my 2 cents worth!!!
