my brother, big fan of the 2006 lamborghini gallardo think (if he had one) he could kill me in a 5 mile race if i had the new 2009 Porsche GT1

I think he's totally crazy because my research says the lambo only has 350 hp and the new porsche has about 950!

ive posted questions about battles before and you all helped me by telling me your opinion i would like you to do that again.

PORSCHE IS #1

Answer:
The Porsche is faster. The 911 Turbo and 911 GT@ and 911 GT3 and Carrera GT are all faster than the Gallardo.

Answer:
I'm assuming you are not taking this to Bonneville, but running the 5 miles around a road course. That would also require the assumption that both you and your brother could drive well enough to actually keep these things under control and push them to the limits around a race course, which is something of a stretch unless you've got experience with driving 300 hp cars on a racetrack. Driving a car to its limits on a track is hard enough with a Honda Civic.

Ok, with that said, this one really is no contest: The GT1 is a lot faster. Porsche built this one for winning races. The Lamborghini is good at looking impressive and posting big horsepower numbers, but they seldom record very good lap times on an actual race track. One of the few cases I've heard of a Lambo showing up in a race track situation was a One Lap of America event where somebody brought a Diablo - it didn't do too well against Corvettes or Porsches, and on some tracks lost to, among other things, a Dodge Neon SRT-4 and a 1960s era Plymouth Valiant. The editors reported it often had problems with such things as brake fade.

Answer:
There are a number of issues here… starting with what has been pointed out, that more than this being a race between two cars, you say it would be between you and your brother. While the difference between two pro drivers might come down to the car, the difference in amatuer drivers would be such that even with vastly different cars, the better driver would win (I've instructed at Open Track events for many years, and have seen stock Miatas blow past Ferrari 575s).

Second, you are comparing one car that exists, and one that is rumored to be planned for the future. While the GT1 (as rumored) would be a vastly superior car to the Lamborghini, the fact is that it does not exist. As such, in a race right now, the Lamborghini would have a pretty major advantage.

Assuming the GT1 comes to be, looking at the previous GT1, and the rumors of a new one being built from the Carrera GT technologies (if not outright based on that platform), you are looking at a car that would be well beyond the performance envelope of the Gallardo (as well as the price). The Gallardo is the entry level car from Lamborghini and would compare nicely to something like the 997 Carrera S, or even the Carrera Turbo. The GT1 would be a car aimed to compete against the Veyron and similar supercars.

Answer:
The Porsche is obviously the better one. Porsche has a much more sucessful racing history, which would impact the development of such a high performance supercar. Lamborghini has only one major international racing victory. Also, Lamborghinis are generally designed for brute force instead of a lightweight car with a superior power to weight ratio. I mean, look at the later Countaches! Scoops, slats, and intakes galore! Porsches are much more lightweight, and are designed with more than top speed in mind.

Lastly, the Gallardo is their "entry-level" car. The GT1 will be the top of the line, halo car for Porsche. A real race would be between the new Lamborghini Reventon and the new Porsche GT1.
