When turning right into another street or around a roundabout and need the indicator to be on I find that when coming out of the turn the indicator clicks off but then goes further and the left indicator comes on. The automobile trader says that is normal. The Peugeot dealer says it is worn out and needs replacing. Anyone with a 307 experiencing similar problems?

Answer:
Old Lion is talking rubbish. He is thinking of the old pre-comms indicator stalks.

Your automobile is fitted with a comm 2000 unit that includes both stalks , the clock spring for the 2 airbag connectors and the horn connector plus the connection for the key aerial.

These units were known for being a weak point, usually developing a fault with some aspect of the lighting stalk or occasionally the airbag. They became such a problem that eventually Peugeot and Citroen (PSA) had to find a new supplier of comm 2000 units.

The unit should cost between £130 - £180 depending upon equipment level, and should take a dealership around 20 minutes to fit.

Furthermore, Old lion has told you that to change it requires removal of the steering cowling, airbag and steering wheel. This is correct as obviously the comms unit is fitted in the same location as the old style lighting/wiper stalks. However, i would not advise that you remove your airbag unless you know exactly what you are doing, as improper removal can KILL you.

The airbag contains a high explosive charge designed to be able to fully inflate the airbag in a few milliseconds, if you remove the airbag from the steering wheel and then disconnect its electrical connectors without following certain precautions then the airbag will detonate in your hand, and your face will probably be quite close too.

Lastly, your Peugeot dealer knows more about your automobile than anyone else, including mechanics for other manufacturers.

So if your dealer says that’s what’s wrong then why would you not believe them?

Answer:
yes. In fact many 206 and 307 suffer from that. My guess is that eventually you’ll need to replace it and they’re not cheap. What I've discovered is that there's a weak spring inside the turn signal stalk and you can strenght it to solve this. It is difficult to do. You need to take off the panel under the steering wheel, the airbag and the wheel itself then you'll see the base of the turn stalk, remove the screws and you'll find the small spring. Luck!
