the shaker hood still says 6.6 wich was the 403ci engine, well i yanked it and droped a 455ci in,now i want to take the 400TH out and convert it to a 4 speed.Thanks.
Answer:
The swap is fairly easy it just requires quite a few parts. I would get new parts versus something used. Also, take the 6.6 Litre off of the shaker and leave the shaker unadorned. You can surprise a lot of motor heads on the road who may think that just because your shaker is not marked that you only have a 350. After you kick their a$$ they will know better.

I'm currently converting my Monte Carlo over to a manual tranny. The hardest part was putting a clutch pedal in. I used a hydraulic set up from a mid 80s Camaro. Lakewood has a steel master cylinder and clutch slave that will work. I'm also using a hydraulic bellhousing. No clutch linkage that way. Getting a flywheel, clutch and pressure plate isn't too hard, but you have to know what you're looking for. Once you fab up some kind of clutch pedal and attach the master cylinder to the firewall, the rest is basically a bolt in project. The hard part is just getting all the parts together, and paying for them. Look around on ebay for mid 80s hydraulic bellhousings or look in your local junkyard.
Answer:
The obvious answer here is to find a junker with a stick and take all the clutch gear out to put in your car. you won't have to fab anything, and stick cars were not uncommon back then. Once you have that, the swap is a breeze… Book Mark it-> del.icio.us | Reddit | Slashdot | Digg | Facebook | Technorati | Google | StumbleUpon | Window Live | Tailrank | Furl | Netscape | Yahoo | BlinkList
