can anyone give me some info on a vehicle i've just got. Is it any good, what's the bhp and top speed? it's a B reg 1985, is that a classic? and it doesn't have seatbelts in the rear, where can i get them fitted and will it pass mot without them? thanks guys
Answer:
Is it maybe a VOLVO 440?
B reg would put it at about 1984 or early 1985. With the year range you describe, for the road, Porsche made 911 (various forms) 924 (Audi) and & 944.
Answer:
Any car older than 25 years old is a classic.
If they do not make the automobile anymore, then it needs to be 15 years old to be considered a classic.
The 944 Turbo goes from 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 150mph. That was very fast back in the 80's.
The regular 944 does the 0-60 in around 9 seconds. and has a top speed of around 130mph.
It is reliable, but pricey to maintain and fix since it is a Porsche.
Go to the Porsche dealer to get seatbelts and they’ll also install them.
Answer:
The 944 gets about 150 hp, and the top speed? don't really need it, 25 in neighborhoods, 40 on the road, and 60 on the highway, it can do all.
The 944 was on Vehicle and Driver's Ten Ideal list from 1983 through 1985, and the Turbo made the list for 1986.
In 1984, Vehicle and Driver named the 944 the “Best Handling Production Automobile in America.”

or a 944;

If it didn't come with rear belts, it'll pass MOT without them.
You should be able to insure it as a classic.
Answer:
I'm a long time Porsche owner and I’ve never heard of a 440 or a “B reg”.
That's superior, a 944 is a pretty neat vehicle.
The 944 2.5L Engine is rated by the factory at 150bhp at the engine, and a Top Speed of 130mph
The engine design comes for the 5.0L V-8 928. It is basically 1/2 of that V-8 engine. Parts are available and are cheaper than ever. Body parts are still available and after market trim, body, and engine parts are very plentiful.
Below are few links that will expand you knowledge and help you look for parts. The Porsche North America link will allow you to download a parts catalog in pdf and grant you to more easily look for items by part number and a little about how things go together. The second link is good to find other links to Porsche stuff and the next two link are two very good forums to ask questions of the board. These guy are people like yourself and people with extensive knowledge. The last links are for seat belts if you can't find a good set anywhere else.
At the very last link I found your seat belts and the item number is #1000663 and sells for $205.44 (ouch) but it looks enjoy it is a brand new retractable OEM Belt. You could go with a cheaper belt at www.seatbeltsplus.com for $16.95…
Good Luck with your Porsche and happy hunting for the parts.
