I'm looking for actual Boxster owners to give me their honest thought. I'm considering a 2001-2003 Boxster but I'm worried about how much it will cost to maintain or repair if necessary. I'm not much for DIY. Let me know your thoughts.
Answer:
Owning several Porsches myself in the last 15 years, you will find that once they are out of warranty, you will find yourself spending lots of money even with a Porsche independent shop. Their hourly rates are only about $20-30 less than the dealer. With the Boxster, your problems isnt the year, its the mileage. Owning a 5-7 year old Boxster, you will be faced with either a 30K service or 60K service and the tiny things that start to go are power top, suspension and brakes. All these things are not cheap. My oil changes usually run about $100. and that is the cheapest bill I’ve gotten at the shop. I used to do my own oil changes, but I’m old and lazy now. I pay others to do my dirty work. Good luck.

Ownership of a Boxter will not be that substantial. The 911 Carrera on the other hand would cost a fortune to maintain. The newer model Boxter came out in 1999, and then the second generation in 2003. I would try to get a 2003 or 2004 to prevent going back and forth to Porsche to get the car repaired. I would set aside a budget of $1,200 - $1,800 per year to upkeep a 2003 Boxter. Brakes, Oil Changes and Misc parts could get high-priced if you go to your local Authorized Porsche Dealer but at least you’ll have the satisfaction of driving an up to date Porsche Boxter. To get an idea of how much you would have to spend to get a clean 2003 or 2004 Boxter check out this link. http://www.globalautosports.com/index.cf…
Answer:
They are not expensive to maintain and are low maintenance vehicles. Very reliable and great on gas, but require premium gas.
Don't go to Porsche dealer to maintain. They charge way too much.
Repairs are expenisve since it is a German luxury sportscar manuafacturer.
Answer:
i mean it wont cost that much money, but the thing is a porsche 911 carrera is only a bit more pricey than a boxter, but trust me i think you will be fine.
good luck mate .
Answer:
You can take the car to an independent mechanic rather than the Porsche dealer for your oil changes. Spark Plugs are changed once each 60,000 miles and the Indy can do that for you as well.
Answer:
my friends mom has a marketing buddy who owns one and he makes 150k a year.. And it kills him.. the oil change was about 270 dollars spark plugs costed him 900
Answer:
Go ahead purchase the vehicle. It's old anyway.
