What sites are there for Boxsters?

Answer:
Yes you can erase some of them with some Code Readers. The point of the Check Engine Light (CEL) is to warn you that something might be wrong with the vehicle. I hope you have taken care of whatever the problem is, rather than erasing the internal code. In some cases you can get a CEL and it really isn't anything that needs to be worked on, and sometimes there is a hard failure and if you erase the code, it will come back. I just had a CEL on my 996tt and it was three cylinders that had a “Miss” and I heard them when I started the vehicle after it had been sitting for a week. I’ve a program that runs on my laptop that goes further than a OBD II reader. It is made by Durametric. It is a tiny costly for most people, but I really wanted one and had the money. The Durametric software can erase many more than a standard Code Reader. It can erase things like Seat Belt / Air Bag problems, Security Problems, Heating and A/C problems and the Code Reader can’t.

Answer:
Turn ignition to “on” position, disconnect the battery while it's “on” position, remove the key and wait about 10 seconds, reconnect battery and begin it up to check. If the light is still on, then you need a scanner to erase it. Remember, there must be a reason why the light is on. You have to fix the problem. Turning it off is only a temporally fix.

Answer:
As mentioned, disconnecting the battery… the negitive terminal to be specific, will clear the code. Though 10 seconds will most likely not be enough, I've always heard 30 seconds (though don't go too much longer than this if you have any alarms or a stereo that requires an unlock key as after 50 seconds or so all of these will reset as well).

Quite a few things can set off the Check Engine Light… if this was set off by something like a lose gascap or such, then simply clearing the light will have it over and done with. But if the sensor is dirty or there’s an actual problem with emissions, then it will just come back on.

And, if the light is on and flashing, then there is a problem that the computer feels will cause damage to your cat, so in that case, ideal to limit your driving to the trip to the mechanics (though the flashing light is a pretty rare occurance).

As for Boxster info, the two best Porsche resources on the internet would be the forums at Pelicanparts.com and Rennlist.org.

Answer:
Any ODB2 scanner will turn it off.

But it will come back on in 50 miles (at most).

Get the problem fixed. That’s ideal for you pocket (MPG).

Good Luck…
