The car has only done 12,000 miles. The warning light came on and the engine died. After leaving the car for 20 mins it started OK, power was back and able to drive it.
Any idea what the fault is? Any idea how long the vehicle
warranty lasts for?

You'll need to get it to a garage that can plug into the car's computer which should have kept a record of the fault. I think that your car should have a 3 year warranty limited to 60000 miles, so hopefully you should be covered.
