My speedo doesnt light up or anything, is this going to cost a lot of money to get fixed, and whats the best thing to do as i dont want to get ripped off in a garage?

Try the dash light brightness control, it might be turned right down; on our 07, it's a small wheel switch on the lower dash to the right of the steering column, next to the headlight adjuster wheel if yours has that fitted.
