I have the ability to hear water sloshing about inside my Megane sometimes! A few weeks ago I went to Somerset for the weekend and came back on an AA truck as water had got into the fuseboard corroding the connectors (it rained a lot that weekend). The fuseboard has all been sealed up properly now, but sometimes I get water in the footwells, and the floor storage compartments are always wet.
I've done a bit of reading and it sounds like I need to make sure the drains are clear, but I wouldn't even know where to begin to look for those? Anybody have any other ideas as to why its taking water? Needless to state, I worry each time it rains and am dreading the winter… Thanks!
Answer:
There will be holes in the floor pan but they'll be plugged with a rubber bung. The problem you’ve isn't drain holes but the fact that water is getting into the vehicle. The usual places are 1) The sun roof, 2) Faulty door seals (unlikely) 3)The boot seal(not unusual) But if the fuse box is getting wet it could possibly be from the windscreen area. Not common with bonded screens. So lift the bonnet and look just below wipers and see that the drains for that void are clear. Usually get blocked with leaves, then the rain fills that area and it flows into the car. Happens on a lot of cars.
Answer:
If the vehicle has a sunroof, there are usually drain holes at the front corners, visible when the roof's open. If you pour a bit of water into the sunroof surround, it should disappear down these holes & emerge behind the front wheels, after passing down pipes running through the windscreen pillars.
If these get blocked, you can carefully clear them with a flexible wire.
