My automobile has only done 45000 mls. and wouldn't anticipate the clutch to have given up.

Could be damp getting in. I had same problem. When damp the clutch plates don’t grip fully so hence judder when cold.
If it was an alignment problem it would happen even when hot.
Go to Renault dealer and have a chat and alos ask if in view of mileage that you can have a Goodwill claim. If they concur the manufacturer pays half the bill to fix.

Answer:
might need to get it checked out, it could be the hydraulics, the master or the slave cylinder, I had to scrap my vehicle for a similar problem because the cost of the repair was greater than the cost of the car… (was an old Volvo)
