I am just curious as to what the problem could be and possible cost of solutions

Answer:
Most likely if the engine is not overheating or spewing oil or water its due to a sensor.

Answer:
maybe you didnt put the gas cap on tight enough? did you say its back off? if it comes on again go to like auto zone theyll hook up to it and tell ya the code and what it means.

Answer:
Well it depends what impreza do you have. If it's WRX or WRX STI, then it could be either problems with overheating or it could've been just a turbolag. IF you have a simple 1,6 or 2,0 impreza. it should've been overheating or some problems caused y petrol

Answer:
could be anything…im not being a wise @ss….if it stays on..go to almost any parts store for free scan…[advance for me]..with modern cars you can't tell much without scan…too many sensors…

Answer:
Flashing light means there was a misfire. If it was something else the light would have saved on for a while. Ether way there is a code stored that you can have read at an auto parts store or a dealer. My guess is Po30? depending on which cylinder. Some tomes you'll just mis a spark or something and set the sensor off. If it hasn't happened before and not since I don't think it's anything to worry about. I have gotten it on both my WRX's
