Ok, I know after 71 all vw vans went to dual carbs, then fuel injection. I have a 78 with a single carb so I know it is somewhere between a 68 to a 71 assuming its out of another van and not a beetle or something else. I can't find the motor numbers anywhere on this thing where would they be?

Facing the engine, it should be right behind the pulley for the generator. My question is why did the previous owner replace the engine with a carburetor engine as opposed to the injected Porsche 1.7?
