Yes, unless the crossing is posted as “Exempt”. Otherwise any car that’s required to stop at a railroad crossing must also stop before crossing light rail tracks. You're just as dead if you get struck by a light rail car as you’re if struck by a train.

Unfortunately there are no train stations particularly close. The nearest is Carbondale, IL, which is about 90 miles away–figure about a 90 minute drive.
