I would most likely stay away from vehicles over $50,000, Small Pickup Trucks, and V8 Engines. You’ll get murdered on insurance with a automobile that cost over $50,000 or has a V8. I would not get a small pickup unless it is the Toyota Tacoma because all of them either failed or almost failed in crash tests (worst being the Chevrolet Colorado, best being the Toyota Tacoma.)

As a first automobile, I wouldn’t get something too peppy, yet something that is safe and affordable and cheep to insure. I would suggest buying used because you can save yourself a ton of money.

I'm financing a 2007 Ford Focus Hatchback since January 2008 and I want to trade-in this vehicle to Honda or Mazda. Is it possible to trade-in it even if its not fully paid? I'm paying my ford focus for 60 months and with a high APR (8.3% because i dont have credit history), I want to trade it for a good Sedan like Mazda3 or Honda Civic.

Any automobile that you purchase, not lease, can be traded in at any time. The big question is how far upside down are you? You've only been paying for 7 months. I'd say you're far too upside down. No loan company will approve the deal. Here's why …

Say you're $8000 in negative equity right now. (a strong possibility) You want a Civic that stickers at $18000. The dealer will sell it to you at $16500 plus fees. On average, that will come out to about $18300 out the door. All lenders will approve a loan no more than 10% over sticker price of any new vehicle. Or $19800 in this situation.

You’re $8000 in the red. The dealer can take $1500 of that and bury into the new contract on the Civic since he can get as much as $19800 from the lender. That means you need to come up with the rest of the negative equity, or $6500. If you don't have that to put down, you don't have a deal.

Beware of any old style, blue suede shoes dealer that claims you can get into the automobile of your choice. No matter how much you owe on your present one. This type of dealer uses predatory lenders who make personal loans, not auto loans. You'll be paying for the new automobile, as well as the balance of the trade-in with an APR of 19.9% to 29.9%.

What that means is that if the total selling price of the Civic is $26,300, with your negative equity included, you'll end up paying a total of $50,000 to $65,000 for the $16500 car at the end of 60 months!

Forget trading it in. You're at least another 2 years away from reaching equity in your current car. And you don't have enough credit established yet to get 0.0% from a new automobile manufacturer.

And for someone without any credit history, getting approved at 8.3% is incredibly low!

yes you can but it's not going to be pretty. the day you drove the vehicle off the lot it lost at least 2k in value since its an 07 figure about an extra 2-3k in value loss. So if you paid 15k for the vehicle with financing subtract financing taxes .etc fees and lets state that comes to 10,500 now it's depreciated value is at about 6k. being realistic you probably have barely paid for the taxes and financing. Leaving you with 10,500 -the 6,000 . So if you buy a mazda3 for 21,500 add that 4,500 left over from the ford. That's 26k plus a new financing contract. basically your paying the dealer to take the car off your hands and begin over. I wouldn't do this a friend of mine did this and his payments for an 07 focus are 2 dollars less than my crew cab truck note. How much are your vehicle notes out of curiosity and to help you figure out what your looking at.

How many miles is too many for the year to mile ratio. Like 10ooo miles over 2 years etc. i been looking at a lot of older second hand automobiles. I would rather to get a pickup (toyota). Seems they dodge more tax the older they are but pick ups etc are quite high on tax. Please help ineed specific kind of examples. thanks.

firstly, what is generally taken as the average annual mileage is 12,000 (this is how most warranties equate and also calculating pence per miles for magazines), but it might be higher as a lot of pickups are used commercially. to my knowledge pick ups are taxed the same as cars, so it will be on CO2 if it is registered after march 2001 (Y reg or new yr system), this will be quite high for a pickup. if you buy a automobile registered before then it is measured on engine size, so it will be £200 next year. in the Television program Topgear a couple of years ago they attempted to destroy a toyota hilux pickup, but failed, so theyre pretty robust and toyota are good for reliability, there are also lots of them about. Landrovers are also supposed to be pretty tough too, not so sure about reliability though. with your budget you should be able to get an early 90's toyota, but land rovers are more pricey. there are a few other companies who've done pick ups, like mitsubishi, nissan, tata etc. also there are vehicle derived pickups, such as the VW caddy and a skoda equivalent, these will be cheaper to fuel, but are probably only 2 wheel drive, depends what you need it for

I am moving from Texas to New Mexico. I’ve a rental home, but still have a TX drivers license. I think New Mexico has much less sales tax than Texas. Any suggestions? Also, I’ve a 2001 GMC sierra 4.8 V8 to trade or sell, whats a good trade in value on it? Looking at Gunn Honda in San Antonio. No haggle! GMC sierra runs great but has check engine light for EGR valve, small amount of hail damage to hood.

Well, there’s no doubt that whatever you select, both automobiles are sure to be wise decisions. However, I purchased (financed to death) a Nissan Sentra S in June & it has been a great vehicle so far. Compared to my last car, I anticipate that the resale of this Nissan to be far greater. Nothing chaps my fanny like throwing money to the wind. All automobiles depreciate. Some worse than others. These two vehicles at least don't take a nose dive in value two years later.

My Sentra S has all options. The 6 CD is very nice, the Rockford Fosgate stereo rocks, & the magnetic grey paint is so sharp. The dealer that I got my Nissan at is right across the street from a Honda dealer. But the Sentra was just redesigned in 07 & to me has a fresh look.

I can't tell you what your GMC is worth, but KBB.com has an easy to use chart to determine value based on what your car has.

My personal preference is Civic you should visit automobiles.com or edmunds.com and check out the true cost of ownerships for both cars like a 5 year projected values..

My experiences from Nissan and Honda ownership shows to me that Nissan Maintenance cost is high Honda is slightly less compared to Nissan. Civic is a well balanced verhicle sport, luxury, and class a good combo for the price.

If I compare BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar to Honda, Toyota and Nissan

it would be like Honda is like BMWs of economy cars

Toyota is Mercedes of economy vehicles and Nissan is Jaguar…

Best bet will be Civic.. plus i get almost 39MPG on highway driving alone and about 32-34MPG on city driving but i somwhat reckless in city roads compared to highways.

i hope this helps my brother sold is house and retired to the east coast of yorkshire he purchased a static on a camp site which he paid £44000 for then was told he couldn’t sell it to anyone else but the site after two weeks he asked them how much they would give him for it guess what? £12000 also he’s not allowed to carry out any repairs himself he has to have them done by the site engineers at a huge cost .£12 to change a bulb .so i hope people in your situation are reading this then hopefully these sites might have to change there policy's

But if not, then NO! Once you’ve brought this static caravan you have to visit it once the people who have let it out, have gone. You will have to go to it and clean it and check for damage e.t.c. If you’ve relatives there then they could look after it and just go in and check it out once the people have moved.. If you do have relatives whereever you’re going to purchase this caravan it would be very nice… especiallly if they live a while away. You could visit them and stay somewhere with your own facilities… and they could look after your caravan.

I would advise you not to purchase one enless you’ve relatives there. It's not worth the hassel!

Differences in Kelley Blue Book prices?

I have a certain car in mind that I'm looking up on kelley blue book, and it assumes 'excellent' condition. While it seems the dealer has an internet special price (print this page and bring it in, yada yada) that’s less than what the automobile would be in excellent condition, I was wondering if there's general idea of how much vehicle value changes when going from excellent to good condition? Specifically, this is a sedan - a 2004 chevy impala, if that helps. It's my first time buying a automobile, so I want to go in with some idea at least of what is fair so I know what to aim for in haggling, and when to simply state no, and such.

Price the automobile at edmunds.com instead. kbb's “values” are higher than the real world, from my experience. Edmunds gives you the ability to put in condition, mileage, options, and then gives you back trade in value, private party value, and dealer value.

Remember - it's a buyers market, so don't overpay for that vehicle, and make sure they give you a printout of a carfax report, and also you should get it checked by an independent mechanic.

Also - I agree with jay, excellent means nearly perfect, a 5 year old Chevy is unlikely to be perfect - use good when evaluating what it's worth.

Actually you can alter the automobile by installing the gas cylinder. What you need is just a space. After install, your car can run on both gas or petrol

As far as I know, the automobiles that runs on natural gas are conversions. And it is not a great idea, because getting natural gas to fill up is difficult to do (or difficult to find filling stations).

bought a used 2002 camry from dealer. had 2-3 previous owner. had greenish yellow substance smell of vomit in the closed cupholder. filled up the cupholder like a liquid, to the top and all. need advice on automobile. dealer stated it's a lie. been riding around with “liquid” in the shut part as “proof.” need advice on next step? in trunk pair of dirty panties with coagulated blood spots on them. panties could have belong to college student, whole automobile most likely come from college students or their campus, etc. anyway.

How can the Dealer say it's a lie? Have you not Shown it too them? This is also another reason why you open the trunk and fully check out the car prior to purchasing the automobile. if there was a smell in it, you should of had the dealer clean the car prior to buy. just take the automobile to a quality detail shop and have them absolutely detail the car in and out. including the trunk. From there just put the whole matter behind you and chock this one up to experience. I would still report them to BBB and also if your city has one, the Dealer licensing board. (Many dealers need to have a license to sell automobiles in some says.)
