They don't even drive it as they have another better automobile, but they are both insured on it, I tried to get a quote and its over £2000. But since they are insured on it what is the best thing to do?
I heard they should just add me as a named driver? How much cheaper will the insurance be from £2000. Thanx.
Answer:
yeah, the ideal thing to do if you want to drive it is become a named driver, but as they currently have a policy you’ll either have to go with the company you're with (which means no shopping around for ideal price), you can cancel it and go with someone else (you should get some money back for the unused months) or you can wait for it to expire, but if your parents arent using it then it seems a bit of a waste. i would suggest asking the current insurer how much it would be to put you on as a named driver, shop around and see if its worth it (as some companies will be astronomical). when you shop around use the comparison sites, but then ring them up, if they dont offer you the same price, tell them and they should match it. i drive my parents 1.8 fiat marea, and it costs £520 a yr, it would cost £200 for just them, im with RAC, the quote from Norwich union was £1700 (the best any of the comparison call centres could offer). some companies also offer 2nd car discount, so when ure parents want to reinsure the better car they might save money. also, using it for commuting will put it up a lot, as will you being a regular driver rather than an occasional, you need to consider how much you are going to use it, unless youre using it several days a week or more go with occasional. the excess (amount you’ve to pay out b4 they give you anything) will be atleast £500, you wont get no claims bonus, but generally experience will lower it anyway, and the amount you save now will probs be more than you would in the future with an NCB
congrats on passing, dont crash and good luck on finding a deal
Answer:
would be apt to cut your price in half at least, try putting the correct details into any search site and see what comes up, or as your parents are both insured to drive it, get one to phone the insurance company and find out how much more to get you added to the policy.
I used to have my mum as the first name on my insurance when I was 17 and was insuring 2.7 V6's for less than friends driving 1.1 Fiestas were paying!!!
Answer:
It will be much cheaper to insure you as a named driver. Although your excess will probably be high and y ou won't get any no-claims bonus for yourself when you do decide to insure your own vehicle.
Answer:
Your parents don't trust you to drive the automobile ,that is why you’re not on the insurance .
