So my friend called me up and asked to come and see him since he was in Arizona. I went over there to see him and we were drinking for a couple hours. We all decided to go out and my friend was insisting to drive my 06 Ford Mustang. We were on our way and he decided to race a automobile next to us. I told him to stop but we ended up crossing the median and going into opposite lanes and then came inches from hitting a wall.

The police came out and took him off to jail since he was the the one driving Luckily we didnt end up being seriously hurt. Now I have insurance and my insurance will cover some of my doctors bills but I want to know what will his insurance do for me?

My car was totaled and I never got a ticket and he ended up in jail. Will I get punished from this and get my drivers license suspended? Will my insurance no longer carry me on the policy? He lives in Chicago will he have to come down to Arizona for court?

I learned my lesson and am lucky to be alive I just have questions that need to be asked. Thank

Sarah from Arizona

Answer:
Your friends insurance will do nothing for you. He was driving your car so your insurance will cover any damages. Your license will not be suspended, depending on your insurance company your rates will probably be outrageous. An insurance company won’t drop you because of an accident, they will surcharge you for the accident for the next 3 years. I don't know how the court system works, he’ll most likely be served in Chicago since that’s his primary residence. But since the citation and arrest took place in Arizona he might have to appear in an Arizona court.

Answer:
Sarah, your license is going to be OK, but you can state goodbye to your good driver discount. I think your insurance is going to get very very pricey after this.

Answer:
Sorry honey, insurance doesn't follow people, it follows automobiles, this entire thing will fall under YOUR insurance since it was YOUR vehicle and YOU let him drive.

Answer:
Have you heard of the “National DMV Database”? You can look up anyone's DL image in the usa. Pretty shocking if you ask me.

Answer:
That 1st answer is b.s. You can’t look up someones license on the net. Only law enforcement agencies can.

Answer:
You need new friends.

Answer:
You need to check the laws for your state.

This situation should not affect your license record. You weren’t driving.

It depends on the court, they might require he appear or plead guilty by mail or an attorney can handle it. Its your friends issue now…

It will affect your loss history report when you attempt to get car insurance.

It depends on the insurance company, if they drop you or increase premium.

In NYS, under no fault laws, medical bills would be paid for you but not for the intoxicated driver.

If your vehicle has collision insurance, it will pay to repair regardless of fault. If your friend has insurance (or someone in his household does) and it covers collision for other vehciles it would pay you (our your carrier thru subrogation).
