I have a 2003 Ford F150 that has about 52,000 miles on it. For the passed 2 weeks each time i come to a complete stop it sounds like the car is having a hard time staying on. The engine sounds like its going to cut out and sometimes it will rev up the engine by itself which keeps it running but im not sure how it can do that while im stepping on the brake. It actually totally shut off this morning as i was driving to work. Any ideas what i should do to repair this? Im 8 months pregnant and my boyfriends automobile only holds 2 people so i really need to get this fixed asap and without spending a lot of money
Answer:
On the back of your Throttle body, there is a sensor called an IAC (Idle Air Control). This happened to my 2002 F-150 at about the same miles. It only costs about 30-40 dollars.
Good Luck
Answer:
first off ,its not a carb. its a throttlebody….
ok on your air duct by the air filter its bout 4 inc long by 3 wide massive sensor called a maf sensor .it reads how much air is coming in or how thick the air is ,these can act up and cause it to idle weird and stall.one way to find out is to unplug it,if the vehicle runs better thats your problem ,also check for vaccum leaks,
Answer:
Try changing the AIR FILTER first. If it still is close to stalling at idle you may have a vacuum leak. I highly doubt it's the gas filter on a 2003 car.
Answer:
fuel filter.
proably in the gas tank… ez yet pricey fix. got a friend who is a
Shade tree mechanic… 250 - $300.oo
does this motor have Fuel Injectors???? cha~ching!
Answer:
It sounds like there is a vacuum leak in one of the small hoses connected to the carburetor. Hard to find, easy to repair!
Answer:
it might be the fuel filter ….it might also be the carburator that might need to be cleaned
Answer:
It sounds like the fuel filter might need to be changed. Its really not that expensive.
Answer:
might be many things, but shouldnt be a large problem….but take it to a good mechanic that will tell you the right reason and not rip you off.
Answer:
Take it to a good mechanic. It probably won't be that bad to fix. Good luck.
Answer:
Could be something simple and cheap like dirty spark plugs or it could be the throttle and I have no idea what that costs.

Also you should go to your nearest auto part store and buy the book on your make and modle. I purchased one for mine and it has every part in your car, pics, and an index for questions like these, and it will show you step by step with photos on how to mend it. Not that you would because fixing a automobile isn’t for everyone, but when you have a problem it is nice to figure it out on your own instead of going to a dealer where they tend to do whatever they have the ability to to make a buck. IF you know exactly what is wrong with it then the person fixing it can't jerk you around.
