how can you tell when you need a new clutch what are the signs that the clutch needs to be replaced
Answer:
Hi…There are many clutch faults, I list here….
Clutch slip…..the friction plate is so worn, or it has become out of alingnment, it won't drive the shafts, i.e. you’ll feel the engine is not giving it's all, You will sometimes feel a judder when the friction plate has become worn, broken or become out of alingment.
Burnt out clutch plate, it smells really. awful, especially in hill climbing and predominantly when towing a substantial trailer.
the above need a new friction plate.
clutch whir/squeel, means the thrust bearing has become dry within it's bearings….replace thrust bearing
Because replacing clutch parts on most vehicles, involves a lot of work, it is sometimes wise to replace the whole clutch (all parts) at the same time.
Answer:
To test if a clutch is slipping?Put the handbrake hard on and begin the automobile.Choose 2nd or 3rd gear with the clutch down. Then drive off you would normally, but leave the handbrake on! If the engine stalls then the clutch is not slipping,if the engine revs up then the clutch needs repacing.Hope this helps as other symptoms can be poor gear selection, high bite point and heaviness of operation
Answer:
A good test is, when climbing a hill in third or top gear, momentarily dab the clutch. A good clutch will re-engage straightaway and the engine note will be as it was. A slipping clutch will slip under this test and the engine note will rise as the clutch fails to bite.
Answer:
Theres really no CLEAR sign unless you vehicle doesnt run at all but usually when its hard to shift. Its worn out when the gear wont come out easily and it wont go in either. If you doubt your clutch working…make sure you get it checked out just to be safe.
Answer:
i would douuble check your clutch fluid reservior (if you’ve one) before blaming the clutch. but it would be hard to shift, and the engagement point will get higher out on the pedal.
